The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Raza Naqvi, has decided to empower the selection committee with full authority, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
This decision includes the selection of the national team and the captain, marking a shift in the PCB’s approach towards team selection.
This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance the performance of the Pakistani cricket team in the upcoming World Cup.
The decision is based on the belief that those with a deep understanding of the game and its players should have a significant say in team selection.
According to sources, the Chairman is keen on empowering the selection committee and will not interfere in its matters.
This hands-off approach is expected to allow the committee to make unbiased decisions in the best interest of the team and the sport.
The decision regarding the other selectors, including Chief Selector Wahab Riaz, will be made within a week.
This is part of an overall plan to empower other departments within the PCB, ensuring a more democratic and efficient functioning of the board.
In recent news, the PCB faced a setback as Shane Watson and Darren Sammy declined the offer for the head coach position. Despite this, the PCB remains committed to its quest for a foreign coach.
