Opp boycotts National Security huddle, demands Imran’s release on parole
PTI's Salman Akram Raja announces no representative from his side will participate, but Gandapur will attend meeting in his official capacity as CM: Opposes any new military operation in current situation
The opposition parties, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its allies, have refused to attend the National Security Committee meeting, which will be held today in the National Assembly, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
According to the TV channel, PTI Secretary Salman Akram Raja, along with Mehmood Achakzai and others, addressed a joint press conference in Islamabad and announced their decision to boycott the meeting scheduled today.
Salman Akram Raja said, "We have decided not to attend the National Security Meeting, and no representative from our side will participate."
He further stated that PTI’s political committee had already made this decision yesterday. He added that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur will attend the meeting in his official capacity.
Opposition leaders firmly opposed any military operations, arguing that the country had been suffering from similar conditions for 77 years and they did not support another such decision.
Salman Akram Raja emphasised that PTI’s primary demand remains the release of its founder, Imran Khan, on parole so that he can participate in such high-level security meetings.
Previously, PTI had set a condition for attending the meeting only if their leaders were allowed to meet Imran Khan in Adiala Jail, where he is currently imprisoned under various charges.
However, the party has now escalated its demand by calling for Imran Khan’s temporary release as a prerequisite for their participation.
