Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Islamabad to meet on March 30 to sight Eid crescent

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene on March 30, 2025 (Ramazan 29, 1446 A.H.) in Islamabad, to determine the sighting of the Shawwal moon, which will confirm the date for Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations in Pakistan.

The meeting, set to take place at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, will be attended by religious scholars, meteorologists, and other experts who will assess moon sighting reports from across the country.

Chairman Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad will chair the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in the federal capital to decide on the Shawaal moon sighting.

The sighting of the Shawwal crescent will mark the conclusion of Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, and determine the beginning of Eid festivities.

The committee's decision will be based on both eyewitness testimonies and scientific calculations.

Last month, the Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) issued a scientific forecast, suggesting that the Shawwal moon is likely to be visible on March 30, making Eid-ul-Fitr probable on March 31, 2025.

However, the final decision will be made by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, as per Islamic traditions that require a visual confirmation of the crescent moon.

The meeting will also include zonal committees in different cities to collect testimonies. The official announcement regarding Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 will be made after reviewing all reports.
