Pakistan, IMF hold next round of talks in Islamabad today

Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will hold the next round of ongoing talks in Islamabad today, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

During the meeting, both sides will review sales tax exemptions in the next federal budget. The IMF also suggested sales tax exemptions on edible items and residential property. The IMF also pressed to expand the digital invoicing network.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised concerns over Pakistan’s proposed gas circular debt management plan, questioning key measures including a proposed petroleum levy and the use of state-owned company dividends to retire liabilities.

The government recently presented a plan to the IMF as part of ongoing negotiations under the Fund programme. 

However, contrary to reports suggesting approval, the IMF officials have not endorsed the proposal and instead sought further explanations on several components of the strategy.
