British diplomat calls on Punjab Assembly speaker
British High Commissioner's Political Secretary Harry Thomson and Commonwealth Development Officer Jinal Shah were also present. The UK envoy enquired after ex-PM Shujaat Hussain and exchanged views about the prevailing political situation and matters of mutual interest.
Parvez Elahi expressed gratitude to the UK authorities for restoring the British Airways service. The diplomate said that democratic act of empowering standing committees of the assembly for the first time is quite an appreciable step.
He said Britain is assisting Pakistan in the health and education sectors and adequate funds have also been allocated which will help train these departments.
He said that so far research conducted, its fruit will also be reaped by Pakistan also. British High Commissioner said that as soon as the federal government approves it, provinces should complete the process of legislation soon.
