PCB talent hunt for schools season 2 to begin tomorrow

The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) talent hunt programme for schools season 2 will begin tomorrow with an opening match between Aitchison College and Beaconhouse Lahore at Gaddafi Stadium, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday. 

A total of 1400 schools from 100 districts across Pakistan will be taking part in the 2026-27 edition of the event.

On Saturday, Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi will grace the occasion as chief guest and will officially inaugurate the second season of the tournament.

According to the Chairman’s vision, the reach of the tournament has been expanded to 39 districts and 450 schools.

The best-performing school cricketers will be integrated into PCB’s age-group and pathways system.

Following the conclusion of the opening match, the PCB has also arranged a musical concert by the renowned singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan to entertain the fans.

Entry will be free to the stadium on Saturday for both the opening match and the musical concert.

The match will start at 2 pm, with entry for spectators free.

 The captains of both teams took part in a trophy photoshoot at Gaddafi Stadium ahead of the opening game.

Aitchison College captain Dawood Tauqeer and Beaconhouse captain Ahmed Shahzil were present at the event.

Dawood said playing in the school cricket tournament had benefited him and other young players by providing opportunities to participate in PCB age-group tournaments.

Beaconhouse captain Ahmed Shahzil said schoolchildren from across Pakistan were excited about taking part in the tournament and showcasing their cricketing talent.

The PCB has, for the second consecutive season, activated the school cricket ecosystem with substantial financial and personnel investment across the country.

PCB’s regional and district coaches held trials in schools across the country, which were then followed by training camps for all schools in August and September.

For the tournament, the PCB has also arranged multiple venues for the schools that did not own a ground.

A number of schools were also provided cricket kits along with playing kits.
