Sindh CM commends academic achievements of visually-impaired student Hans Raj

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah met visually impaired student Hans Raj and recognized his outstanding academic achievements in Karachi on Friday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Hans Raj secured first position in the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) in 2025, becoming the first visually impaired student to take BIEK examinations on a computer.

He obtained a 3.93 CGPA in BS Computer Science from NED University and successfully passed the ICAP PRC examination in July 2026. ICAP has stated that he is now eligible to appear in the CAF examination.

Hans Raj has also won a bronze medal in an international rowing competition and received a Best Delegate Award at Model United Nations.

His journey is a testament to the importance of education and opportunities for persons with disabilities, the chief minister said, adding that the Sindh government is committed to providing persons with disabilities opportunities for education and empowerment.

CM Murad Ali Shah paid tribute to Hans Raj for his achievements, saying that the progress of visually impaired children in education is significant success for the Sindh government.

The meeting also highlighted efforts by DEPD and Ida Rieu College for Blind and Deaf to expand educational opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Hans Raj thanked CM Murad Ali Shah for the support provided by the Sindh government and the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD).

He explained that the Sindh government and Ida Rieu had provided him with education, accommodation, independence, and opportunities, adding that education and literacy can transform the lives of persons with disabilities.

Hans Raj emphasized on providing equal educational opportunities to persons with disabilities, saying it strengthens society.

Hans Raj and his colleagues are also developing an accessible website for persons with disabilities.

During the meeting, the CM announced free Google and Meta AI classes for university students at a cost of Rs100 million as part of a major initiative to promote AI education among university students.

CM Murad Ali Shah presented Hans Raj with gifts of a Sindhi cap and ajrak in recognition of his achievements.

Secretary DEPD Taha Farooqui and NED University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Tufail were also present at the meeting.
