Federal Minister for Information Marriyam Aurangzeb showed solidarity with the journalists who were victimised in the last Imran Khan regime and announced to end any kind of work on the proposed black law under the title of the Pakistan Media Development Regulatory Authority (PMDRA).

According to the 24News HD TV Channel, she addressed a media conference in Islamabad after taking oath as the information minister on Tuesday.

Talking to media persons, Marriyum also announced that the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 would be reviewed in coordination with all the stakeholders.

She also said they would not take revenge on opponents as their government is not feeling insecure but the rule of law will prevail in the country.

She said in the last four years, many media workers have been laid off in the media industry and others faced terror and violence like Hamid Mir, Asad Toor and Mohsin Baig.

The minister said the media industry also faced restrictions and censorship in the last regime. She said his government will work with the Joint Action Committee of media to resolve issues like fake news.

Marriyum said in the presence of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), there is no need for any other media authority.

She declared that no one will be imprisoned in her government as they will not have a tradition of stinking accountability against any political opponent.

She also announced that the Right to Information Act was passed in her party’s previous government and now they will set up a commission on it so that it can start work.
