Senate passes Anti-Terrorism Amend Bill amid PTI walkout

The Senate on Tuesday passed three bills including Pakistan Land Port Authority Bill, 2025, The Anti-Terrorism Amendment Bill, 2025and the Petroleum Amendment Bill, 2025 amid noisy protest by the Opposition lawmakers, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry tabled the Anti-Terrorism Amendment Bill, 2025 which was fiercely opposed by the opposition legislators.

The House also rejected an amendment in the bill suggested by Senator Kamran Murtaza before passing it with majority vote.

During the passage of the bills, the PTI Senators staged a walkout from the House but party’s Senator Humayun Mohmand remained behind to oppose the legislation.

Two ordinances extended for 120 days

The Senate also passed two resolutions, extending the validity of the Capital Development Authority (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 and the National Agri-Trade and Food Safety Authority Ordinance, 2025, for a further period of 120 days.

Under the resolutions, the Capital Development Authority (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 (Ordinance No. III of 2025), will stand extended from August 30, 2025, for four months by Article 89 of the Constitution.

Similarly, the National Agri-Trade and Food Safety Authority Ordinance, 2025 (Ordinance No. VI of 2025), was also extended for 120 days, effective from August 30, 2025, under the same constitutional provision.

Senate told of joint efforts against human smuggling

The Senate was informed that concentrated and coordinated efforts have been made over the last one year to tackle human smuggling.

Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar told the House, during Question Hour, that the Prime Minister has taken notice of the issue of human trafficking and he receives monthly updates on in this regard.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry informed the House that action has also been taken against the FIA officials for their collusion with human smugglers.

He said forty-one FIA officials were dismissed for their involvement in processing passengers related to Greece boat incident. He said criminal proceedings were also initiated against them.

Responding to a question, the Minister of State for Interior said further improvements will be made in the infrastructure of Islamabad Capital Territory. He said both speed and quality will be ensured in the infrastructure projects.

The Senate today passed two resolutions extending the Capital Development Authority Amendment Ordinance 2025 and National Agri-Trade and Food Safety Authority Ordinance, 2025 for a further period of one hundred and twenty days.

Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani announced to donate five days’ salary of the members of the Senate for relief and rehabilitation of people affected by recent rains and flash floods. He said those who wish to donate their full month's salary may do so.

Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani announced donating five days’ salary of senators for the rehabilitation of flood victims. He said senators could also contribute more if they wished.

Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar also announced donating his one-month salary to support relief efforts in flood-hit areas.
