PHC extends stay in PTI’s intra-party elections case until Dec 21

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday extended the stay until December 21 in the case of PTI’s intra-party elections and the party’s election symbol, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

A two-member bench of the PHC, comprising Justice Atiq Shah and Justice Sahibzada Asadullah, heard the petitions filed by the PTI against the notices issued to it by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Speaking on the occasion, the ECP’s lawyer told the court that he would submit the reply in the case today.

Barring the ECP from taking any action against the PTI until the next hearing, the bench adjourned the case’s hearing until December 21.

On Monday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had reserved its verdict on a number of petitions challenging intra-party elections of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Pakistan. An ECP five-member bench led by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja reserved the decision and deferred the hearing until Tuesday.

The PTI’s intra-party elections resulted in unopposed election of Barrister Gohar Khan as new party chairman, replacing incarcerated Imran Khan.

Monday’s hearing was attended by Babar S Akbar, PTI Chairman Gohar Khan, Barrister Ali Zafar and others.
