Swat split into two districts as new ‘Bar Swat’ district approved by cabinet
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial cabinet has unanimously approved the division of Swat into two districts, creating a new administrative unit named Bar Swat.
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting, where the formation of Bar Swat district was endorsed without opposition.
According to the approved plan, Tehsil Matta will serve as the headquarters of the newly created district.
The new Bar Swat district will comprise three tehsils, including Khwazakhela, Matta, and the tourist tehsil of Bahrain, aimed at improving administrative efficiency and service delivery in the region.

Following the cabinet meeting, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information Shafee Jan formally announced the establishment of the new district, confirming that all administrative arrangements would be finalised in line with cabinet directives.
Officials noted the move is expected to ease governance pressures in Swat, enhance public service delivery, and bring administrative facilities closer to the people of the area.
The creation of Bar Swat district marks another step in the provincial government’s efforts to strengthen local governance structures.
