Cobra ‘visits’ Haleem Adil Sheikh in Karachi prison
Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh has killed a cobra snake which appeared inside the prison cell where he is being kept on the orders of the court, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
An anti-terrorism court in Karachi had sent PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh on physical remand and handed him over to the police two days ago after the Sindh government filed a case against him for creating law and order situation during Malir by-election.
Later on Friday, Haleem Adil Sheikh was taken for court appearance where talking to newsmen he said “A conspiracy is being hatched to kill me. Murad Ali Shah on the direction of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari let loose a snake in my cell at the CIA centre.”
He said “It was a four feet long cobra snake which I killed. The police is responsible for letting the snake in.”
Haleem Adil said he killed the snake and the policemen witnessed that. DSP Aftab Alam confirmed finding a snake in Haleem Adil’s cell.
The PTI leader said policemen also took pictures of the dead snake.
Spokesman’s talk
Divulging details on the cobra incident, Muhammad Ali Baloch, a spokesman for the leader of the opposition in Sindh Assembly, said “A poisonous snake turned out in the room of Hakeem Adil Sheikh which was pinpointed by a servant who went there to deliver breakfast. After seeing the snake, Hakeem Adil Sheikh killed it.”
Baloch said the presence of snake in Haleem Adil Sheikh’s room put a question-mark on the police performance. “Conspiracies are being knitted against Hakeem Adil Sheikh as police have become a slave to the Pakistan People’s Party,” he added.
The spokesman said the Sindh government would be held responsible if anything happened to Hakeem Adil Sheikh, who is being kept in detention at CIA centre in Karachi.
Faisal Vawda’s reaction
Reacting to the snake episode, Federal Minister Faisal Vawda said “Haleem Adil Sheikh should offer thanks that it was a snake not a dragon.
Speaking in Karachi, Vawda said “After snake, we fear the food will be mixed with poison. But I will tell you one thing: whatever you people sow today you will reap it tomorrow.”
PTI leader sent to jail on judicial remand
Haleem Adil Sheikh was presented in the court in Malir on Friday where the judge sent the PTI leader to jail on judicial remand.
In the court, Haleem Adil tried to play the ‘victim’ card as he said that a cobra snake was let loose in his room. The judge amusingly asked the PTI leader did he see the snake’s teeth.
Haleem Adil Sheikh went on speaking saying a conspiracy is in the works to murder him. Still unimpressed, the judge asked the PTI leader to give political talk outside the court.
The judge later informed the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly that he is being sent to jail where he will be safe.
The judge also issued notice to the prosecutor regarding bail application of Haleem Adil Sheikh, seeking arguments on bail plea on February 22 while directing the authorities to produce the accused before the court on February 25.
But, for the PTI leader the problems continued to pile up as the prosecution has added several sections related to terrorism in the Memon Goth case. Now, Haleem Adil Sheikh will be presented in the anti-terrorism court.
