Senate passes bill to curb witchcraft practices

The Senate on Monday passed a bill to amend the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), introducing strict punishments to curb the practice and promotion of black magic and witchcraft, 24NewsHD TV reported.

Under the amendment, a new section, 297-A, has been added to the PPC.

The legislation aims to prevent activities related to black magic, sorcery, and their promotion.

 According to the bill, any person found involved in practicing or promoting black magic will face imprisonment ranging from six months to seven years, along with a fine of up to Rs1 million.

In addition to the PPC amendment, the Senate also approved a separate bill related to the federal curriculum and textbooks.

The legislation, presented by Senator Qurat-Ul-Ain Marri, pertains to matters concerning the preparation and regulation of the national curriculum and educational content.

Both bills were passed by the upper house as part of its legislative business.
