ECP secretary to leave office early next year

The Election Commission of Pakistan has received a big jolt before its preparation for the general elections of 2023 as its secretary has decided to quit his office early next year, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Sources revealed to News24 on Saturday that the current secretary of the election commission, Dr Akhtar Nazir had refused to perform his duties as secretary ECP and decided not to accept further contract.
The ECP has started its hunt for a new secretary.
Dr Nazir has formally informed in writing to the federal government and chief election commissioner regarding his decision. The current secretary would perform his duties till January 2022.
Sources said the ECP had to find a new secretary for arranging preparation for the 2023 general elections. Dr Nazir was appointed on deputation. Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja offered him a further contract but the secretary refused to accept the offer.
The CEC has started consultation for the appointment of a new secretary. It is expected that the federal government would appoint someone from grade 22 as secretary ECP on deputation.
