Senior lawyer Ayaz Shaukat appointed as first chairman of Social Media Authority
Senior lawyer Ayaz Shaukat has been appointed the first chairman of the Social Media Protection and Regulatory Authority, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In this regard, the Ministry of Interior on Thursday issued the notification for the appointment of the chairman as well as five members of the Authority for a period of five years.
Senior journalist Sohail Iqbal Bhatti, Adnan Khan, Muhammad Salman Zafar, Fahad Malik and Saad Ali were appointed as members of the Authority.
Presently, Shaukat is performing duties as an advocate general, Islamabad.
He will take over as the Authority chairman after Eid holidays.
Any person, affected by fake news or false information, will be able to file a complaint with the Authority, which will give orders within 24 hours of receiving a complaint.
The Authority will also have the power to block the concerned content.
