Beijing welcomes 'The Legend of Maula Jatt' ahead of China release

Pakistani movie, "The Legend of Maula Jatt", has officially landed in China with a Chinese-language premiere in Beijing.

This marked a major milestone in cinematic collaboration between Pakistan and China.

The film is set to release across Chinese cinemas from May 21, 2026.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi shared that the film will introduce Chinese audiences to the dynamic culture, storytelling and colours of Pakistani cinema.

The release became possible under the Film Co-Production Agreement signed in June 2024 between Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the China Film Administration.

The agreement aims to strengthen collaboration and encourage future joint productions between filmmakers from both countries.

Originally released in 2022, The Legend of Maula Jatt became the most expensive Pakistani film ever made at the time and later turned into a massive box office success, reportedly earning over Rs401 crores worldwide.

Directed by Bilal Lashari, the film featured a star studded cast including Fawad Khan as Maula Jatt, Hamza Ali Abbasi as Noori Natt, Mahira Khan as Mukhoo and Humaima Malik as Daro Natt.

The Beijing premiere included a screening, audience interactions and a panel discussion.
