HPV vaccinators beaten black and blue in Chobara

A woman and her husband attacked a human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV) team with clubs and sticks, and also tore their clothes in the Chobara Tehsil of District Layyah, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

The incident took place in Chak No. 268 of Chobara and the accused woman was later identified as Zainab. 

Police registered a first information report (FIR) against Zainab, Hafeez and three other unidentified men and five women on behalf of Lady Health Worker (LHV) Shehnaz.

On September 16, 2025, Pakistan launched the country’s first-ever human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign to protect 13 million adolescent girls from cervical cancer, in partnership with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and UNICEF.

Pakistan joins more than 150 countries that have included this WHO-prequalified vaccine in their immunization schedules, safeguarding the health of future generations.

The campaign marks a major leap forward in strengthening women’s health and advancing Pakistan’s commitment to the World Health Assembly’s goal to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem by 2030.
