Senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Latif Khosa Friday rejected the possibility of Governor’s Rule in Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

He stated that there was no war-like situation in Pakistan, and therefore, there was no possibility of Governor’s Rule.

He asserted Pakistan was a democratic country that upheld democratic values. “Pakistan is not a monarchy where one person can dissolve assemblies over personal acrimony,” he added.

The PPP stalwart also stated that the provincial assembly would run as per the rules and the Constitution. “Anyone attempting to undermine the rule of law in the country should be ready to face the legal consequences,” he warned.

“It is being said that the Punjab Assembly will be dissolved. Can the federal government constitutionally prevent its dissolution?” a question was put to Latif Khosa.

“There are two to three options under consideration. The chief minister can be asked to take the vote of confidence. The Governor can ask him to take the vote of confidence,” he replied.

“Even if a motion of no-confidence is tabled, the assembly cannot be dissolved without voting,” he stated.

“In case the assemblies are dissolved, elections will be held in provinces only,” he averred.
