In a surprising move, former Pakistani cricket captain and ex-Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Rameez Raja, has been omitted from the Asia Cup's commentary panel. The Asia Cup, scheduled to commence in Multan on August 30, boasts an impressive lineup of commentators, with several Indian cricketing legends joining the panel for the event hosted by Pakistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

Key Indian commentators like Ravi Shastri, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh, and Irfan Pathan, among others, will lend their voices to the matches. Meanwhile, Pakistani legends Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Aamir Sohail, and Bazid Khan are also set to be part of the commentary team.

Raja's omission is noteworthy as he had just returned to the commentary box during the Test series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka last month, after a hiatus since September 2021. This break came when Raja was elected as the chairman of PCB, a tenure that lasted only a year before a 14-member management committee, helmed by Najam Sethi, replaced him.

Rameez Raja's association with the PCB isn't new. He previously served as its Chief Executive between 2003 and 2004, represented Pakistan at the ICC Chief Executives’ Committee, and is currently a member of the MCC World Cricket Committee. As a cricketer, Raja played 255 international matches, amassing 8,674 runs from 1984 to 1997.

The Asia Cup is set to take place in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with the final match slated for September 17 in Colombo. The tournament will kick off with Pakistan facing Nepal in Multan. A detailed schedule for the matches has been released, with special positions allotted to teams like Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh in the Super 4s stage.
