The Senate elections in Sindh are not less than a headache for the PTI-led federal government as its allies in the province have demanded additional quota, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

As the ruling PTI wanted to win three Senate seats from the Sindh province, its main allies – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) – are seeking more seats in the upper House.

The MQM is interested in seeking two more seats in the Upper House of the Parliament while the GDA wants one seat.

Under the current mechanism for Senate elections, the PTI and its allies can win three seats from the Sindh province because the PTI has seats in the Sindh Assembly, MQM has 21 while the GDA has 14 members if the provincial assembly.

In the upcoming Senate elections in March 2021, 11 senators will be elected from Sindh. Eight of them will be elected directly while two seats are reserved for women and one for minorities.
