By-polls: ECP bans transfers, uplift schemes in PP-241, PS-52

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has banned transfer of officers and release of developmental funds in PP-241 Bahawalnagar and PS-52 Umerkot in connection with the by-elections to both the constituencies, scheduled to be held on April 15.

The ECP has already issued schedule for the by-elections to both the seats.

According to an ECP notification, transfers of officers and release of developmental funds have been banned till by-polls to both the seats – one each of the Sindh and Punjab assemblies.

The ECP said that the step has been taken to ensure transparency in the by-elections and avert any manipulation attempt by candidates.

PP-241 BAHAWALNAGAR

The constituency fell vacant after disqualification of PML-N MPA Chaudhry Kashif Mehmood by the Islamabad High Court over possessing a fake degree on January 20, 2020. He had won the seat in general elections 2018.

PS-52 UMARKOT

The constituency fell vacant after the demise of former Pakistan People’s Party MPA Syed Ali Mardan Shah, who had been elected five times from the same constituency, on January 19.

The ECP has already completed arrangements for by-polls to both the constituencies to be held on April 15.
