ECP orders release of all jailed lawmakers before Senate elections

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday directed the authorities concerned to issue orders for production of all jailed members of the National Assembly and the provincial assemblies.
The directive has been issued keeping in view the Senate elections, which are scheduled to take place on March 3.
Shehbaz Sharif, leader of the opposition in the National Assembly and president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and his son Hamza Shehbaz, Pakistan People’s Party’s Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah, PML-N’s Khawaja Muhammad Asif, independent MNA Ali Wazir and many others are currently in jail on various charges. The ECP has directed the authorities to have them released so that they could cast their vote in the upcoming Senate elections.
