Akram Durrani, Mehmood Khan meeting for appointment of caretake CM in KP

Opposition leader Akram Durrani has accepted the invitation of Chief Minister Mehmood Khan to talk about the appointment of the caretaker chief minister of KP, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Friday.

According to sources, they are all set to meet tonight to finalise a name for the caretaker chief minister.

If they fail to reach a consensus, the matter will be referred to the assembly speaker who will form a joint parliamentary committee.

In case, the parliamentary body failed to reach a consensus, ECP will finalise the name.

The sources said KP Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ghani has been asked to reach Peshawar, the insiders said, adding that the Mehmood-Durrani meeting will be held at the speaker’s house. Earlier, Mehmood Khan and Akram Durrani refused to meet each other.

Governor  Ghulam Ali approved the CM’s summary for the assembly dissolution a couple of days ago and issued the notification, stating the caretaker CM would be appointed by the governor in consultation with Mahmood and Durrani. The governor called on them to provide the names of their nominees for the position by January 21.

Last week, the Punjab Assembly (PA) stood dissolved after Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman excused himself from the process.
