Currency notes worth millions gutted in Karachi Sabzi Mandi fire
Currency notes worth millions reduced to ashes as a major fire swept through offices of traders at New Sabzi Mandi (vegetables market) in Karachi on Tuesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Thick smoke billowed from the eight offices located under a shed in the market. The massive blaze engulfed the offices in no time.
After receiving the report, Rescue and fire-brigade teams rushed to the spot and launched an operation to bring the fire under control, which they did after one and a half hour’s effort.
No loss of life was reported from the site of the incident so far.
Trader Farooq informed the media men that lot of cash was saved in the offices which was reduced to ashes. “About 60 million rupees were lying in drawers when the fire broke out,” he added.

Farooq further said their losses could be greater as there were trying to collect information. The first was started due to short-circuit, he added.
The traders demanded that fire-brigade vehicles should be deployed at the 100-acre market.
