Gul Plaza fire in Karachi: Death toll rises to 28

The death toll from the tragic accident at Gul Plaza has risen to 28, rescue officials confirmed on Tuesday, as recovery and identification efforts continue.

According to rescue authorities, seven bodies have been identified and handed over to their heirs after completion of legal formalities. However, 21 victims remain unidentified and their bodies have been shifted to the Edhi morgue for preservation.

Edhi Foundation officials said that DNA samples of the unidentified bodies have been collected and sent to the Sindh Police Forensic DNA and Serology Laboratory (SFDSL) in Jamshoro, commonly known as Sepmal, to help establish their identities.

Officials added that once the DNA results are received and identities are confirmed, the bodies will be handed over to the respective families. Meanwhile, rescue and relief operations at the site have been completed, while authorities continue to investigate the cause of the incident.

The tragic incident has cast a pall of grief over the city, with families anxiously waiting for information about their missing loved ones.
