Iranian interior minister arrives in Islamabad for key talks

Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni arrived in Islamabad on Monday with a high-level delegation to discuss bilateral relations and regional matters.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi received his Iranian counterpart at the airport. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry presented a bouquet to the visiting dignitary. Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moqadam was also present on the occasion.

Welcoming the Iranian minister, Mohsin Naqvi said, “I welcome my brother on his arrival in Pakistan and hope that Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni has brought good news.”

He expressed hope that the visit would further strengthen Pakistan-Iran relations and contribute to progress on regional issues.

The Iranian delegation includes the Governor General of Sistan and Baluchestan, Deputy Interior Minister, Deputy Minister for Urban Development and Transport, Head of the National Iranian Oil Company, Special Representative of the Iranian Agriculture Minister and other senior officials.

During the visit, Eskandar Momeni is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

Later, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting with his Iranian counterpart. During the meeting, Momeni expressed pleasure at meeting Naqvi again and described Pakistan-Iran relations as exemplary.

“I have always appreciated the hospitality of the Pakistani government and people,” the Iranian interior minister said, expressing hope that his visit would prove fruitful.

Mohsin Naqvi also expressed confidence that the visit would help enhance cooperation and further strengthen the longstanding ties between Pakistan and Iran.
