Punjab introduces juvenile driving permits for youth aged 16 and above

The Punjab government has introduced a Juvenile Driving Permit facility for teenagers aged 16 to 18, enabling them to legally ride motorcycles upon meeting the required conditions, 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday. 

According to a spokesperson for Rawalpindi Traffic Police, the new permit will be issued only after obtaining parental consent.

Holders of the juvenile permit will be allowed to ride motorcycles and scooties up to 125cc, but will not be eligible to drive other types of vehicles.

The annual fee for the Juvenile Driving Permit has been fixed at Rs500 and Rs1,000, depending on the permit category.

Applicants will be required to provide a Smart National Identity Card or B-Form as part of the application process.

To qualify for the permit, candidates must successfully pass both a traffic sign test and a road test.

Those who clear the examinations will receive their driving permits on the spot, the spokesperson said.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam emphasized that the use of a helmet will be mandatory for all juvenile permit holders while riding motorcycles.

He further warned that the permit would be cancelled in cases of serious or repeated traffic violations.
