Speed limits on motorways and national highways restored

The Government of Pakistan has withdrawn its earlier decision to temporarily reduce speed limits on motorways and national highways, restoring the previous maximum speed limits for all categories of vehicles.

Confirming the development, Motorway Police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed said the speed limit for cars and other light vehicles on motorways has been restored to 120 kilometres per hour (km/h).

He added that the speed limit for passenger buses and heavy transport vehicles on motorways has also been restored to 110 km/h.

According to the spokesperson, the previously prescribed speed limits for all categories of vehicles on national highways have likewise been restored.

Despite the restoration of the higher speed limits, the Motorway Police urged motorists to strictly comply with the prescribed speed limits and all traffic regulations to ensure safe travel.

"For a safe journey, drivers should keep their speed under control, fasten their seat belts and exercise caution while driving," Syed Imran Ahmed said.

The spokesperson noted that while the decision to restore the previous speed limits is intended to facilitate smoother travel for road users, public safety remains the government's top priority.

The Motorway Police reiterated its commitment to enforcing traffic laws and promoting responsible driving to reduce road accidents across the country's motorway and highway network.
