Power tariff likely to be hiked by Rs4.99 per unit

The electricity prices are likely to increase by Rs4.99 per unit on account of the fuel adjustment for the month of February last for which the reference fuel cost was set at Rs4.25 per unit, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will conduct hearing in this regard on March 31, said official sources.
According to the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), 18.22 per cent of electricity was generated from water in February, 2022.
Similarly, 31.70 per cent of electricity was generated from coal, and, 6.51 per cent of electricity was generated from furnace oil.
Moreover, 11.36 per cent of electricity was generated from local gas, and, 15.16 per cent of electricity from LNG gas.
Also, 12.53 per cent of electricity was generated by nuclear fuels in February, 2022.
Power prices to increase for K-Electric consumers
The electricity prices for K-Electric consumers are expected to rise by Rs3.45 per unit on the account of fuel cost adjustment for the month of February last.
The NEPRA will conduct hearing in this regard on April 4 next.
The K-Electric consumers will have to bear the burden of Rs3.95 billion if an increase in the electricity prices is approved.
