The United States has praised Pakistan’s part in efforts for suitable peace in the South Asian region while it repeated ‘concerns’ at China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
“Pakistan has taken constructive steps to encourage the Taliban to advance the Afghan peace process, besides taking action against Lashkar-e-Taiba leader Hafiz Saeed and other such groups,” US special envoy Alice Wells told the media during an online Wednesday.
During last three years, the diplomate said Pakistan’s relations with the United States had improved particularly in trade.
The US has serious reservations about CPEC … It (CPEC) has devastating impacts on Pakistan’s economy and trade balance tilt is in favour of Beijing, she said, She said China should review its loan conditions for Pakistan after the outbreak of COVID-19 so that the country could cope with economic challenges in wake of coronavirus crisis.
She added the US South Asian strategy had called for Pakistan’s decisive action against the militant groups, particularly those which had been supporting conflicts in Afghanistan. It was deeply in Pakistan’s interest to advance the Afghan peace process. As per their commitment, the US had seen solid cooperation from Pakistan’s civil and military leadership towards the Afghan peace talks, Wells said.
