Attempt to smuggle cigarettes through ambulance foiled in Multan

According to customs officials, an attempt to smuggle imported cigarettes through a boat in the Indus River near Ghazi Ghat Bridge in Multan was foiled by authorities, reported 24NewsHD TV on Tuesday.

Over 1,500 cigarette outer packs, which had been hidden under sheets, were seized from the boat.

At the same time, customs officials also reported another attempt to smuggle cigarettes in an ambulance which was also thwarted at Ghazi Ghat.

The suspicious ambulance was stopped at a checkpoint where inspection revealed that cigarettes were hidden on a stretcher in the ambulance and covered with a cloth.

Authorities speculate that the poor labourers operating the boat and ambulance were used by the smugglers to carry out these activities.

According to customs officials, further legal action was being initiated after taking into possession the cigarettes confiscated in both incidents.
