X tests new feature to improve visibility of link posts

Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) is testing a new feature aimed at improving the visibility and engagement of posts containing web links — a long-standing concern among users, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.

According to Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, the platform has begun testing an experimental feature that allows users to open web links without leaving the original post, making it easier to interact with likes, reposts, and other buttons while viewing linked content.

In a post on X, Bier explained that the feature is currently being tested among iOS users.

When a user clicks a web link, the linked webpage will appear at the top of the screen, while the original post remains visible below, along with interactive buttons such as like, repost, and reply.

Bier noted that link-based posts often receive lower engagement because users tend to navigate away from X after clicking links — preventing the platform from registering interactions like likes or replies.

The new design aims to encourage greater engagement and help X better assess the popularity and quality of shared content.

If successful, the feature could significantly enhance user experience and content reach for link-based posts across the platform.
