Chitral schoolteachers rally for rights

September 20, 2022 09:50 PM

Principals of thirty basic education community schools of Chitral held a demonstration for their just rights, 24NewsHD TV channel reported Tuesday.

The protesting principals said since 1996, they have been teaching children up to the fifth grade in these schools under the federal government for a very low salary.

On June 2021, the project was referred to the provincial government and the provincial government referred it to another project, the Elementary Education Foundation.

The foundation has shown many schools closed in the previous verification, although those schools are still open and children are studying in them, they said, adding that the body wanted the teacher to sign an agreement to crush their just rights even after decades of service.

"Our salaries have been withheld for the last 16 months due to non-signing of this cruel contract," one of the teachers said.

These provincials also marched to the DC Office. Later, the DC assured them of resolving the issue in two weeks.
