A large number of students of Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan organised a protest rally against the political interference in the university affairs by former federal minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Amin Gandapur, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
After Vice Chancellor Dr Iftikhar Ahmed, who stood in the way of the division of Gomal University’s assets, was sent on forced leave for 90 days at the behest of former federal minister Ali Amin Gandapur, the students of the university have become concerned more than ever.
Hundreds of angry students, under the leadership of Pir Shiraz, a student of the university’s law college, organised a peaceful protest demonstration at the university campus.
Addressing the protest demonstration, the speakers said: “We are not protesting in favour or against the university’s vice chancellor, but for the protection of our alma mater.”
They added: “The students participating in the protest do not belong to any political party. We as students do not want the division of the assets of Gomal University.”
They warned: “Currently, our protest is inside the campus and completely peaceful. But if the political interference in the educational institutions is not stopped and the assets of Gomal University are divided, the protest will spread across the province.”
