PML-N leaders demand President Alvi’s resignation
Reacting to President Dr. Arif Alvi’s statement that he had not signed the Army Act, Official Secrets Amendment Bills into law, former finance minister and PML-N leader Ishaq Dar on Sunday demanded the president to resign from his post, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In his tweet, he said that President Alvi had failed to run the affairs of his office.
He wrote: “If President doesn’t return a Bill with objections within 10 days, then that Bill stands deemed approved (Art 75).
“All orders recorded in writing and nothing verbal. Alvi Sb should share evidence of his written/recorded order to return Bills with objections within 10 days.”
“Alvi Sb says he asked his staff to return the Bills who failed to do so.
Oral orders are no orders as per law/constitution.
Btw Official Secrets Amendment Bill received in Presidency on August 8 & Army Amendment Bill received in Presidency on August 2.
Alvi Sb woke up too late!”

“Unbelievable —minimum morality warrants Alvi Sb to resign, having failed to run his office effectively, efficiently and as per Rules of Business — official work is conducted on files and implementation ensured — such statements only indicate playing with the gallery.
God help us!”

Senator Irfan Siddiqui, too, in his tweet demanded the president to resign.

Ministry of Law says President has chosen to bring into disrepute his own post
Law Ministry, on the other hand, said that the president chose to bring into disrepute his own post. “He should take responsibility for his actions,” the ministry said, adding, “The president deliberately delayed signing of these bills.”
Few hours ago, President Dr. Arif Alvi said that he did not sign the Official Secrets Amendment Bill, 2023 and the Pakistan Army Amendment Bill, 2023 as he disagreed with these laws.
The president shared a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter) in which he wrote: “As God is my witness, I did not sign Official Secrets Amendment Bill 2023 & Pakistan Army Amendment Bill 2023 as I disagreed with these laws.
I asked my staff to return the bills unsigned within stipulated time to make them ineffective. I confirmed from them many times whether they have been returned & was assured that they were.
However, I have found out today that my staff undermined my will and command. As Allah knows all, He will forgive IA. But I ask forgiveness from those who will be effected.
