240 millimeters of rain flooded Karachi, says Sindh minister
Sharjeel Memon says climate change has affected Pakistan the most
Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said on Thursday that had there been intermittent rain in Karachi, there would have been no problem, but the city received 240 millimeters of rainfall that created issues, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, he, however, said that the local administration was doing all it could to drain out the rainwater.
He further said that Pakistan was among those countries of the world which had been affected by the phenomenon of climate change the most. “The phenomenon has changed the entire world,” he said, and added, “As many as 447 people have so far lost their lives in KP due to rains and resultant floods; 165 have died in Punjab, while 40 have perished in Sindh, and 30 in Balochistan.”
Similarly, he went on to say, the death toll in Azad Jammu and Kashmir stood at 55, while eight in Islamabad.
