Prime Minister Imran Khan while commenting on his Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s rout in the first phase of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local government elections said that the major reason of his party defeat in the province was wrong selection of candidates, hoping to do well in the second phase as he himself would oversee the LG election strategy, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In a tweet posted on Tuesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan wrote: “PTI made mistakes in 1st phase of KP LG elections & paid the price. Wrong candidate selection was a major cause. From now on I will personally be overseeing PTI's LG election strategy in 2nd phase of KP LG elections & LG elections across Pakistan. InshaAllah PTI will come out stronger.”

On the other hand, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has advised the PTI leadership and workers to put their personal differences on the back burner and forge unity among their ranks. 

The minister in its tweet on Tuesday said: “If the extremist parties like JUI are the substitute of PTI then of course you are right. The PTI leadership and activists should bury their personal differences in this scenario and get themselves organized under the leadership of Imran Khan. If the PTI becomes weak at this point in time, the country will fall into the hands of wolves (opportunists).”

On Monday, KP Minister for Labour and Culture Shaukat Ali Yousafzai revealed the reason behind the defeat of ruling PTI in the LG polls. He said ‘inflation’ is the main reason for losing ground in KP. He hoped that the party would be able to control inflation before the 2023 general elections.

“It is good that no corruption allegations have been levelled against the PTI,” he added. 

Another minister Atif Khan also termed inflation the prime factor behind the PTI defeat in the local government elections.
