Former MNA Ibrahim Khan faces tax evasion charges

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued a tax notice of Rs14.7 rupees to former Member of National Assembly (MNA) Ibrahim Khan for failing to declare his income and assets, according to Regional Tax Office (RTO) sources.

The notice was sent by Inland Revenue Commissioner Zahida Sarfraz under section 122 (5A) of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, which empowers the FBR to amend the assessment of any taxpayer who has concealed or understated his income or wealth.

Sources said that Ibrahim Khan, who was elected as an MNA from NA-153 Multan in 2013, had defaulted on crores of rupees of taxes and had not filed his tax returns for several years.

They added that he would not be eligible to contest the next general election unless he cleared his tax dues and submitted his tax returns.
