The Election Commission of Pakistan has started working on preparing the profiles of four candidates nominated by the treasury and opposition leaders of the dissolved Punjab Assembly for the selection of the caretaker chief minister of the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

Sources said that the commission has received four names for the caretaker chief minister of Punjab and it has started working on preparing profiles of the nominees. The detailed profiles of the nominees will shed light on their qualification and performance in their respective fields.

The ECP secretary will present profiles of the nominees in a special meeting of the commission going to be held Sunday after which the ECP would announce the final name of the caretaker chief minister of the province.

The matter to pick the Punjab caretaker chief minister came to the Election Commission when a parliamentary committee constituted by the Punjab Assembly speaker failed to build a consensus on a candidate for the slot.

The parliamentary committee of the government and opposition members met on Friday afternoon, however, they failed to reach a consensus on a single name.

The government has proposed the names of Sardar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera and Naveed Akram Cheema while the opposition has nominated Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi and Ahad Khan Cheema for the slot of the caretaker chief minister of Punjab.

Former ministers Raja Basharat, Mian Aslam Iqbal, and Hashim Jawan Bakht represented the ruling alliance of PTI-Q League, while the opposition was represented by PM’s aide Malik Ahmad Khan, PPP parliamentary leader Syed Hassan Murtaza, and Malik Nadeem Kamran.

As the matter has been referred to the ECP, it is pertinent to mention here that Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi declared on Thursday that “they will not accept the caretaker chief minister to be chosen by the ECP”.
