Murdered couple was not married, says Sarfaraz Bugti

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti said on Monday that the man and the woman, who were murdered for ‘honour’ three days before Eidul Adha, were not married to each other, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing a news conference in Quetta, the chief minister said he did not want to blame the victims, but deemed it necessary to state the facts. “The deceased woman was married and was the mother of five kids,” he informed.

He said he had seen the video of the incident before it went viral on social media. 

Bugti said that as soon as he saw it, he sought details of the incident from the IGP.

He informed that so far 11 people had been taken into custody in connection with the crime, including a tribal chieftain. “Other persons connected to the crime will be apprehended too,” he said, and added, “The police will arrest and present the suspects in court.”

He said categorically that the government would not allow any person or a group to take the lives of other people. “The murderers do not deserve any mercy,” he said, adding, “The government has suspended the concerned DSP.”

He admitted that preventing holding of such jirgas which ordered the killings of people for ‘honour’ was the responsibility of the government. “And this is a fact that the government prevented holding of such jirgas in the past and took action against the individuals participating in them.”

The chief minister made it clear that the government would not support any Jirga and would adopt a legal course.
