Migrant boat tragedy:  Suspects sent on two day remand

The Federal Investigation Agency produced two suspected human traffickers in court in Gujranwala, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.

The suspects, identified as Azmat and Umar, have been detained in connection with the Greece migrant boat disaster.

The investigators made a request for a six-day remand while the court granted them a two-day remand and ordered the agency to present the accused on June 22 again.

Separately, the FIA nabbed two more suspected human smugglers. The arrested are Mohsin and Sharafat. The agency acted on the complaint of a victim’s father.

Last week, a boat carrying 750 illegal immigrants to Europe sank off Greece.  More than 100 people lost their lives and hundreds went missing.

Reportedly, 400 Pakistanis along with 200 Egyptians and 150 Syrians, including around two dozen Syrian women and young children were travelling on the trawler, the survivors said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced nationwide mourning and formed a special body to dig.
