Marwa Hocane raises voice for refugee rights
Actress and humanitarian Marwa Hocane marked World Refugee Day with her maiden visit to a refugee village in Haripur district, where she showed heartfelt solidarity with displaced individuals and honoured their courage and resilience.
During her first visit to such a community, Marwa engaged directly with refugees, listened to their personal stories, and praised their strength in the face of overwhelming challenges.
She later urged her fans and followers to stand with refugees, not just on this occasion, but every day of the year.
“Refugees show us what true strength looks like,” she posted on social media.
“Let’s not limit our compassion to one day.”
A known voice for social change, Marwa called her visit a moving experience that further opened her eyes to the everyday struggles and undying spirit of displaced people.
Previously, echoing the day’s message of endurance, she shared a powerful quote in a previous Instagram story:
“Take risks in your life: if you win, you can lead! If you lose, you can guide.”
She credited the quote to a close friend, admitting with affection that she had “stolen” the line for its emotional impact.
Just days earlier, Marwa gave fans a glimpse into her personal life by sharing a nostalgic throwback photo from a post-graduation sleepover. The photo, sent by a longtime friend, stirred a wave of memories.
“My heart was so full,” she wrote. “It wasn’t just a dream fulfilled; it felt as if all of my friends graduated this day too, again.” Marwa holds a law degree from the University of London and also has training in fashion design.
Beginning her journey as a television jockey, Marwa rose to fame with her acting debut in Khichari Salsa (2011), and has since become a household name through powerful performances in dramas like Aahista Aahista, Mein Bushra, Sammi, Sabaat, and Jafaa.
In 2016, she made her Bollywood debut with Sanam Teri Kasam, earning international recognition. Off-screen, Marwa champions women’s education and empowerment, co-runs a clothing line with her sister Urwa Hocane, and balances creative ambition with intellectual pursuit.
In February 2025, she tied the knot with actor Ameer Gilani, her co-star from the hit drama Sabaat, turning a reel-life bond into a real-life partnership.
