Faisalabad textile industry halts production over coronavirus

Faisalabad textile industry has decided to halt its production in the wake of the novel coronavirus that has been spreading across Pakistan unabatingly.
So far three deaths have been reported due to the virus, with over 500 infections across the country.
Several textile companies including Klash Pvt Ltd, Interloop, K&M, Lahore Unit, MTM, and Kamal Limited closed its units.
While appealing to the government to pay their dues on an urgent basis, the exporters of Faisalabad said that they would only complete the previous orders.

Meanwhile, Chairman Hosiery Mian Nadeem also told the media that the hosiery factory would be shut down in a week as 40 percent of it workers have been laid off. But Mian Nadeem insisted that “We stand beside our labour.”
While assuring that the administration will bear one month of expenses out of its pocket, Mian Nadeem said: “You cannot bear the expenses of so many people.” He appealed to the government to extend the relief to the hosiery industry too.
He said “Even before the coronavirus, the conditions were not ideal for this industry,” and said, “How will we pay the social security if the industry does not function?”
