Iran ready to let Japanese ships pass, issues warning to UK

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has issued a stern warning to Britain, criticising the alleged granting of bases that could endanger Iranian and British lives, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Saturday.

He accused London of recklessly putting its citizens at risk, asserting that claims regarding damage to Iran’s air defence and naval capabilities are inaccurate.

Araghchi stressed that while the United States portrays one narrative, the reality on the ground is entirely different. He also rejected any discussions about opening the Strait of Hormuz during military operations, stating that such talks are not feasible amid ongoing tensions.

However, the Iranian minister confirmed that Tehran is prepared to allow Japanese ships safe passage through its waters, highlighting selective cooperation for commercial shipping amid regional hostilities.

The statements come at a time of heightened regional tension, with Iran maintaining its position on defending national sovereignty while signalling limited engagement with neutral international actors.
