IHC directs Shahzad Akbar to submit detailed report on ICT’s poor police investigation
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday directed prime minister's adviser on Accountability and Interior Mirza Shahzad Akbar to prepare and submit a detailed report on the worrisome state of affairs of Islamabad Capital Territory’s police investigation, 24NewsHD TV channel reported.
IHC Chief Justice Minallah directed Shahzad Akbar to submit a detailed report on the issue to Prime Minister Imran Khan within two weeks and in the IHC within three weeks.
The court was hearing a petition filed by the mother of Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Joint Director Sajid Gondal.
Justice Minallah said ICT should have been a model city but the standard of police investigation is extremely poor and despite a court ruling, there was no prosecution branch in Islamabad. IHC CJ told Akbar to tell the prime minister that the rights of a common man are being crushed.
Shahzad Akbar, Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafaat, Islamabad inspector general of police and interior secretary, appeared before IHC.
The hearing was adjourned until October 19.
