National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) Chairman Tariq Malik has come under fire over the dual nationality issues during a session of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), 24NewsHD TV channel reported.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) met its chief Noor Alam in the chair on Wednesday. A heated debate occurred on the issue of dual nationality.
As the PAC chief questioned how many people have dual citizenship in Nadra, the authority head replied that 16 people 'have dual citizenship’.
Noor Alam asked the Nadra head to name the persons, saying: Let's not mention your name and read the rest.”
The Nadra chairman said dual citizenship is not a crime.
Noor questioned if dual citizens can hold the most important positions in the country.
Shiekh Rohail Asghar said there is a difference between a common person and a noted figure and questioned how those who swear allegiance to the Queen can be trusted.
Coming down hard on the Nadra head, he said the authority chief is acting as the wisest man of the world
“If you don't have information, shut Nadra,” Sheikh Rohail Asghar said.
About the matter of issuing ID cards to Afghan refugees, the Nadra chairman said the identity cards of Afghan refugees were made when there was no computerised identity card system.
As Noor said he should tell the Nadra head where ID cards were made, Tariq said that was a matter of national security.
