The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected the Sindh government’s plea to postpone the by-election in NA-249 constituency maintaining that the by-polls will be held as per schedule on April 29, reported News24HD TV channel on Thursday.

The Sindh government citing the rising number of coronavirus cases in Karachi and Hyderabad wrote to the ECP that electioneering might aggravate the coronavirus situation so it’s better to delay the by-polls.

However, the ECP set aside its request and maintained the prior election schedule. 

The NA seat was fell vacant when Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s leader Faisal Vawda resigned from his National Assembly seat after becoming a senator last month.
