The Punjab government on Friday appointed Faisal Shahkar as the new inspector general of police (IGP) of the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
His predecessor Rao Muhammad Sardar, who had expressed his inability to get on with his job, was appointed inspector general of Railway Police instead.
Rao had been appointed as the Punjab IGP in September last year in place of Inam Ghani.

Earlier, Punjab Chief Secretary Kamran Ali Afzal and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Rao Sardar Ali Khan have apologised to remain further on their posts.
It has been learnt that the Punjab government is considering the names of senior police officers including AD Khawaja, Faisal Shahkar, and Inam Ghani for the posting of one of them as the IGP.
Chief Secretary Kamran Ali Afzal has also sent a request to the federal government, seeking his transfer from the current post he is holding.
