A local court has extended the interim bail of PML-Q leader Moonis Elahi till tomorrow (July 23) in Rs23 billion money laundering case through sugar mills, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Judge Aslam Gondal of Banking Crime Court on Friday heard the money laundering case against former federal minister and PML-Q leader Moonis Elahi.

The judge gave an extension in the interim bails of Moonis Elahi and two other accused till tomorrow (Saturday).

Amjad Pervaiz, Muhammad Nawaz Chaudhry and Asif Chattah advocates appeared before the court on behalf of Moonis Elahi.

Amjad Pervaiz advocate completed his arguments in favour of interim bail. He told the court that the case had already been investigated by the NAB and the FIA illegally registered an FIR of the case.

The FIA lawyer, however, told the court that the forensic report on the signatures put on the bank accounts was yet to receive. He alleged that co-accused Mazhar Abbas opened bank accounts after putting fake signatures. He further contended that Rs600 million was deposited in a fake bank account. The FIA has yet to investigate who is the beneficiary of Rs600 million, he added.

Then, the FIA lawyer requested the court to give more time to his client for inquiry.

Moonis’ lawyer, however, rued that the FIA restarted the probe in 2020 but still the investigation was ongoing.
