Pakistan’s Covid-19 death toll reaches 3,590, cases tops 181,000

The coronavirus death toll in Pakistan jumped to 3,590 as another 89 deaths were recorded in the country during the past 24 hours (Sunday).

The same period saw the number of coronavirus cases reaching 181,088 after 4,471 people were tested positive, says the latest data released by National Command and Operation Centre on Monday.

The region-wise details of the deaths show that the pandemic continues to be deadliest in Punjab where 1,435 people have so far died of the virus. Sindh is second with 1,089 deaths. The figures for the other provinces/ administrative units are: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 821, Balochistan 102, Islamabad 101, Gilgit-Baltistan 22 and Azad Kashmir 20.

But in terms of infected people, it is Sindh which unfortunately tops the list as the number of the cases in the province has increased to 69,628. Punjab is second with 66,943 cases followed by 21,997 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 10,912 in Islamabad, 9,475 in Balochistan, 1,288 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 845 in Azad Kashmir.  

As far testing is concerned, 30,520 tests were conducted in different parts of the country on Sunday. It means the overall number of tests carried since the coronavirus pandemic outbreak has now reached 1,102,162.

Meanwhile, a total of 71,458 patients have fully recovered after being infected by the virus. With 3,590 people dying, the number of closed cases in Pakistan currently stands at 75,048.

On the other hand, there are 106,040 active coronavirus cases. These patients either been self-isolated or being treated at different hospitals in isolation wards/ intensive care units (ICU).
